Bringing Natural gas to every household
Hallen is a key player in the replacement of New York City’s aging distribution system, needed to accommodate the steady demand for natural gas. We offer diverse services, including steel and plastic main installation, metering and regulating station installation, and service installations. With safety always a priority, we routinely employ non-destructive means when there is a suspicion of unknown utilities. This includes the use of vacuum trucks, keyhole excavation, and hand digging when necessary.
Steel & Plastic Main Installation
Our Role
For distribution work, Hallen performs all sawcutting, excavation, and fusing/welding of mains. Once the pipelines are installed and tested, Hallen performs the live gas tie-ins to the existing distribution system. Finally, we backfill the excavation and have our paving subcontractor restore the roadway. Hallen has a full-time paving department and a drafting division to support all projects. These departments ensure that our clients have all the proper documentation needed to complete the job and create internal utility maps and as-builts.

Metering & Regulating Stations
Our Role
Hallen also specializes in metering and regulating station installations. These facilities, which are typically built below ground, are remotely operated and used to regulate and control the pipeline’s operating pressure. As always, we provide support for every step of the process, from initial excavation to live gas tie-ins.

Service Installation
Our Role
Hallen Construction provides several types of service installation including new and replacement facilities as well as leak repair. The process for each is similar in that they all require excavation, installation, testing and commissioning of new pipelines. Once each installation is complete, we often interface with the end user, relighting gas-powered appliances, ensuring that the outlet pressure is within safe parameters.

Vacuum Excavation
Our Role
Focused on damage prevention and avoiding hazardous conditions, Hallen uses non-mechanical means, such as hand digging or vacuum excavation, to verify the location of existing buried utilities. This is always our first step prior to the use of mechanical digging equipment. In our Keyhole projects, Hallen employs a fleet of vacuum excavators capable of performing small and precise excavations in areas where gas leaks are detected. Once exposed, the leaking pipes are repaired externally without having to interrupt the flow of gas and with minimal impacts to traffic and the community.
