September 10 — New York 811 has announced John DeVito of Hallen Construction as the recipient of its 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award, an honor presented annually to an individual who has devoted their career to advancing damage prevention and worker safety.

For nearly four decades, DeVito has exemplified leadership and commitment across the utility and construction industries. He began his career with Brooklyn Union Gas/National Grid, where he dedicated 23 years, before serving 16 years as Director of Quality Assurance & Construction Safety Bureau with the New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYC DDC). In that role, he spearheaded a groundbreaking collaboration between NYC DDC and New York 811 that improved jobsite safety across city projects.

For the past four years, DeVito has brought his expertise to The Hallen Construction Co., Inc. A former member of the New York 811 Board of Directors, he was instrumental in positioning the organization at the forefront of damage prevention efforts. His vision and leadership during New York 811’s formative years helped shape the organization into what it is today.

“John DeVito is not only a respected colleague, but also a trusted friend,” said Roger Sampson of New York 811. “His dedication to safety, collaboration, and innovation has left an indelible mark on our industry. It is safe to say that New York 811 would look vastly different today without his contributions.”

New York 811 and Hallen Construction congratulate John on this well-deserved recognition and thank him for his decades of service to the industry and to public safety.
