FIELD SAFETY SUPERVISOR

Position Overview:

The Field Safety Supervisor supports the Manager, EH&S, in implementing and maintaining the project safety program for terrestrial duct-bank construction. This role provides daily field oversight for subcontractor activities and promotes compliance with project, client, company, and regulatory safety requirements. The supervisor serves as a visible field safety resource by identifying hazards, coaching crews, documenting findings, and ensuring concerns are promptly communicated and addressed.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Monitor subcontractor operations for compliance with the project Health and Safety Plan, approved safety procedures, job hazard analyses, pre-task plans, and applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Conduct routine field safety inspections across active work areas and document observations using required inspection forms and electronic systems.
  • Review subcontractor job briefings and pre-task plans to verify that the scope, hazards, energy sources, controls, emergency procedures, and crew responsibilities are adequately addressed.
  • Reinforce the use of the Capacity Model, STKY Energy Wheel, and other project hazard-recognition tools during work planning and field observations.
  • Monitor high-risk construction activities, including excavation, confined-space entry, lifting and material handling, mobile equipment operations, concrete placement, utility work, traffic control, and work around the public.
  • Verify that required competent persons, permits, inspections, training records, and supporting safety documentation are in place before applicable work begins.
  • Identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and work with subcontractor supervision to ensure appropriate corrective action is taken.
  • Track safety observations, deficiencies, corrective actions, and follow-up items through completion.
  • Assist with incident investigations, evidence collection, interviews, root-cause reviews, and development of corrective actions.
  • Support safety stand-downs, toolbox talks, orientations, and other project safety meetings as assigned.
  • Assist with trending field observations and identifying recurring hazards or areas requiring additional attention.
  • Other activities may be assigned by your manager.

 

Qualifications/ Requirements:

  • Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Two years of experience supporting construction, engineering, utility, civil, or underground infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with all levels of employees
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required or must be obtained within a designated period after hire.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and hazards associated with excavation, confined spaces, electrical work, mobile equipment, lifting operations, traffic control, and public protection.
  • Experience using tablets, smartphones, email and Procore, or similar electronic documentation systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • CSP, CHST, CUSP, OHST, ASP, CSHM, or ASHM are nice to have.

 

Working Conditions:

  • This role is primarily outdoors in a construction environment with exposure to varied weather conditions, noise, dust, traffic and uneven terrain.
  • Frequent tablet, cell, computer, mouse, and keyboard use
  • Alternating between standing. Must have the ability to safely access excavation, roadway, vault, and duct-bank work areas.
  • Ability to work either day or night shifts based on project needs.
  • Ability to travel between multiple active work locations within the project area.
  • Must have the ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.
  • Hearing, talking, reaching, grasping

 

Salary Range: $75,000 to $90,000
